Have you ever heard the saying that the only way to get good results is by having 80% good nutrition and 20% good exercise? Have you ever felt like you ‘should’ go to the gym or eat healthily but you don’t feel like it?
In a world full of so much information at our fingertips, with workout programs and healthy eating tips only one search away on google, we clearly have the knowledge available to us. So, shouldn’t the world be full of healthy bundles of humans walking around?
Well, it’s quite the opposite. A recent report published by worldbank.org found that “Six Arab countries are in the global top 20 for obesity: Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Depression is a leading cause of illness for women and smoking a major risk factor among men.”
How is this possible when we have the information available to us to avoid such health concerns?
My theory is that we haven’t mastered our mindset yet.
We are not aligned mentally with the health knowledge we have available to us. That’s why it’s so important to master our mindset when it comes to our life and our health. To get the healthy results we want, we MUST master our mind. Without our mindset on our side we will never be consistent enough to live the healthy life we want and need to be truly fulfilled.
So HOW do we Master our Mindset?
- Know what you want to achieve and be congruent.
Our mind is an impressive machine and one of its abilities it to be able to follow directions. However, some of the biggest mistakes people make is not giving their own minds the direction it needs to get the desired result.
For example, someone wants to lose weight but they tell themselves that it’s still OK to eat certain foods. This confuses the mind and it starts to behave at random, which leads to inconsistent directions, lack of certainty, and poor decision-making.
Be clear about what you want to achieve. Set goals. Align yourself to your direction. Be congruent.
- Know your downfalls.
Knowing yourself is vital to existing authentically in this life. Knowing your downfalls when it comes to your goals will help you to put in some parameters in place to support your mission.
For example, if you know you are good with your nutrition but need help with physical exercise then recognizing this will be game-changing. You can get support on this element of your lifestyle. You can get a trainer, you can start an active hobby you know you will enjoy, and you can make sure you get your physical exercise done first thing in the morning before you have time to talk yourself out of it.
List all the downfalls (bad habits) you have when it comes to your health and set a countermeasure in place to help you balance the behavior.
- Trust and teach your mind.
When it comes to creating a bulletproof mindset we have to learn to train and trust ourselves. Our mind will only ever do what you tell it to do. Raising your level of awareness of your self-talk and trusting yourself will take your overall health and well-being to the next level. It is up to us to “train” our mind and help it mature in its behaviors.
For example, the next time you hear yourself talking yourself out of going to the gym, eating the right foods, or staying up later. It is up to you to interrupt your mind and remind it of your goals and why you want to achieve them.
Make a note every time you feel your mind wandering off track and remind yourself of what you’re really aiming for.
Mastering these three tips will boost your mindset and will have more lasting change compared to a short-lived burst of motivation. The mind is underestimated in the household conversation of health, yet it is the one that holds the most gravity when it comes to turning knowledge into action which in turn leads to results.
What steps can you take today to master your own mind?
Until next time, Keep Learning & Keep Growing.
